Environmental Medicine

In 2012, Dr. Wand began an environmental medicine course with
Walter J Crinnion, ND. Dr. Crinnion has over three decades of clinical
experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with illnesses with
environmental involvement. He is the author of the book Clean, Green, and Lean
and currently a professor and the chair of environmental medicine at the
Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ.

Environmental medicine is the study of illnesses that result from environmental exposures. Environmental illnesses are escalating because some humans cannot overcome the onslaught of our chemical environment. Air quality, genetically modified foods, water, pesticides, plastics, medications, cleaning agents, personal care products, fuels, paints, electromagnetic fields, basically anything we eat, drink,
touch or breathe can be problematic.

The most common health effects of some chemicals impact the endocrine, immune and nervous system. Conditions that have been associated with chemical exposure:

• Asthma

• Autoimmune Diseases

• Certain Cancers

• Chemical sensitivities

• Developmental Delays in children

• Diabetes

• Fibromyalgia

• Hormonal Imbalances

• Infertility

Dr. Wand believes the starting point for most illness is the interaction of the patient
with the environment. Many symptoms can have a direct relationship to the unhealthy environment around us. Dr. Wand uses the Toxic CORE (Chemical Occurrence & Related Exposures) Profile to determine which selected chemicals are present in high levels and how they may be affecting one’s health.
